Xavier DESHOULIERES
ARTISTIC CAREER PATH AND APPROACH
Born in 1969 in Poitiers, France
Lives and works in Paris and Majorca.
After obtaining his DNSEP in 1995 from the decorative arts school in Strasbourg, Xavier Deshoulières spent three years in Cologne in the former workshop of Donald Judd.
In 2001, he met Virgil de Voldère and began a long collaboration with the gallery, including performances, solo exhibitions, and international art fairs. He worked and exhibited in Beirut, creating numerous canvases on the "architectural scars" of the martyred city. He continued this work in several American cities, whose urban planning presents contrasts and paradoxes in its transformation. From 2008 onward, he began painting large-scale plant-based architectures, and one of these works won the 2010 Marin Prize.
The extreme detail in his paintings makes them as real as photographs or engravings.
The natural poetry of his works impresses and immerses us in a gentle meditation, like a soothing calm.
Xavier Deshoulières' paintings are part of major museum and private collections, notably the MoMA, and have been commissioned (portrait of Nelson Mandela, portrait of Jacques Chirac, commission from the UN).
TECHNICAL
