Manolo CHRETIEN
COURSE AND ARTISTIC APPROACH
Lives and works in Santec, North Finistère, France.
Growing up on Callot Island with an astronaut father, Manolo Chrétien inherited a passion for aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, for the movements induced by Earth's gravity.
Having been immersed in the colours of Brittany, its materials and photography from a very young age, Manolo is fascinated by textures.
Having graduated from ESTACA (aeronautical engineering) and ENSAAMA, Manolo quite naturally turned to sea and aeronautical photography.
Photographer and painter, Manolo Chrétien has always built his work around the same fascination: the fluids and invisible forces that shape the world.
Water, air, winds, and currents permeate his entire oeuvre. In waves, he seeks movement, tension, and light. In aeronautics, he observes the lift, curves, and deformations of matter under the influence of air and speed. Even the metal of airplanes seems to lose its rigidity, becoming skin, reflection, vibration.
In both painting and photography, Manolo Chrétien does not so much seek to represent reality as to reveal what sets it in motion. Between sea and sky, matter and light, his entire career could thus be summed up in two words: The Praise of Fluids.
